Staff Room

Staff RoomTextile recycling is often regarded by those involved in the industry as the recycling ‘poor relative’ as so much column space and attention seems to be devoted to cans, glass and cardboard etc.

Clothes/Textiles, however, constitute circa 3% of what goes to landfill from our rubbish. On the island of Ireland, this equates to around 35,000 tonnes per annum. Cookstown Textile Recyclers are very keen to bring clothes recycling more into the public domain and we would encourage teachers to take it as seriously as the recycling of other materials.

Perhaps you could do a project with your pupils about textile recycling. To facilitate this, CTR have made a video which charts the progress of clothing/textiles from the point of origin right through to the final destination markets. We have, also, included some links on textile recycling that you and your pupils may find of use.

Your pupils can, also, learn what items can be recycled in a more fun and interactive way from the games which are available on this website. I hope our site is a useful resource to you and any feedback you can give us to improve it would be gratefully received. See the contact us section
